Vertical Trends for the Fashionably Tall

Just sharing my thoughts, frustrations and triumphs as a woman with a tall and slightly athletic build. I'm just your average shopaholic looking for great clothing that fits at reasonable prices without sacrificing style.

I'm Back!

A lot has changed over the course of a year ... new job, knee surgery, traveled abroad, had a baby ... no, still no boyfriend :) ~~ good thing I didn't get any taller!

Through it all, I plan to pick back up with posting regularly. Until then, happy shopping!

R.I.P.(PED)

Good Bye (weeping)... you will truly be missed. We shared so many good times and fond memories.

I remember the day you finally said "enough is enough"... as I tried to mount a 5' elephant statue in DC (the one on 7th street near MCI Center). Little did I know, the seat of my pants were too worn to take the momentum of my movement. As I swung my leg over I heard a loud RIP! It sounded like paper tearing but it felt more like someone whipped the back of my thigh with a wet rag as the cold air stung my exposed flesh. SHIT, I can't go to the club like this!

It's been a wonderful year together:

1. Tackling the "DC Dating Scene" (shaking my head-- that's another blog--- stay tuned!)

2. Getting my "Groove Back" in St. Thomas

3. 10 yr High School Class Reunion in Bahamas

4. Caribbanna Carnival in Canada

5. Curled on the couch watching scary movies with girlfriends

6. GAME NIGHTS at 8023 playing Taboo, Connect Four, and Spades

7. Late night runs to YUMS after the club

8. Back to the Bahamas with NEW boyfriend (now the ex)

9. Break-up with NEW boyfriend

10. Back on the meat market a.k.a "DC's Dating Scene"

We've been through it all... thick and thin! I'll miss your comfort, reliability and flexibility but definitely not your durability (told y'all before that those cheap jeans $30 from ALLOY don't stand the test of time!)

The search is on for a new boyfriend... oh yea, new jeans too!

FASHION FORECAST: Where's the Flood?

I'm absolutely speechless... (that's a first). I just don't know what to say. My first reaction was "Who in their right mind would intentionally buy high waters?" I understand it's a fashion statement but isn't it getting a bit chilly to have your ankles exposed? I don't know about you but I'm not feeling this look. Don't get me wrong, I think it's cute especially when paired with those adorable ballerina shoes but I don't think it's for us (anyone over 6'0"). Maybe if it was a nice Fall day like today (72 degrees and sunny with a nice breeze) I miiiiiiiiiight...ummm...Naaaaah.... FORGET IT! (shaking my head vigorously from left to right)

There's no way you'll catch me in those high waters (not intentionally anyway). Can you imagine the blank stares and me having to explain that it's the latest "Audrey Hepburn" style and not my lil' 2 year old niece's pants?!

After giving it another look (3rd times a charm) they're actually starting to grow on me. Maybe it's one of those things you have to try on... who knows, this might actually be a fly look.

Well, maybe in another lifetime when I'm 5 feet tall and wear a size 7 shoe! (smirk) Arrrrgh, I'm so undecided about these...

But not these super cute ballerina shoes from Steve Madden. They even come in cool metallics and animal prints which is HOT this season! Good timing too because I need to give those 4" stillettos a break from time to time (my poor toes).

Or consider these slippers by Jeffrey Campbell in ice/gold found at Nordstroms for $65 ... ooooh look, they only have size 9 and 10 left. I wonder why?! (sarcastic smirk)

Although I think they're ultra cute, they're ideal for someone with a smaller foot.

I'll pass on this one... not going for the "I survived a flood" look this season with my ballerina boats and flood pants! All I need now is an umbrella hat and a plastic raincoat.

Is there anymore room for me... in those jeans? (as Ginuwine puts it)

Shopping for pants SUX but here are a few spots that I occasionally check out...

1. Tall Girl Shop-->they still need to work on the fit because the rise can be a bit high (looks something like your grandmother's pants hiked up to the bitties)
2. Limited or Express-->same thing in my book... I usually have to try on a few pair to find the right cut and I usually go for ones with a cuff so I can let it out for the perfect fit.
3. www.ALLOY.com--> alright these jeans are CHEAP ($20-$40) but they're good for a few wears-- just don't wash after every use! I know it's sounds disgusting but it extends the life of those bad boys. They carry up to a 37" inseam.
4. www.BUCKLE.com--> they carry Lucky Brand and Silver jeans with 34''-37'' inseams... can be a bit pricey but definitely worth it. They even offer styles that "stretch" to fit hips, thighs and butts!
Rumor has it that GAP carries a line called Long and Lean, found exclusively online. Who's bright idea was it not to carry them in the stores so we could try them on?? Like we wouldn't want to try our pants on too? Anyway, I'll check this one out for myself... gotta see it to believe it! Or should I say... gotta buy it to try it!

Leggalicious! (licking lips)

Yea... yea, I said it.... if Beyonce can do it---- SO CAN I! (smirk)

I'm a true six foota! That's right fellas.... 36 inches of pure, lean, long, dark, creamy... you got it--- LEGS! What I lack in ass, I definitely make up for it in legs! (smiling)

I'm partly frustrated with the limited selection of clothing for tall women that sport a slightly longer inseam than most. Don't get me wrong--- I'm comfortable in my skin and I absolutely LOVE my height... I'm just not feeling the drama I encounter when looking for tall pants.

Some stores claim to carry a longer line that caters to tall women but I often find myself disappointed and yet again pantless (you know who you are). Come on now... 32" doesn't quite cut it as "tall" in my book! I mean... if my 5'5" homegirl is shopping on that rack what makes them think those same pants will hit below my ankles?? Man, I can't even pretend they're capri pants! Oh and don't think I didn't notice that most stores only carry 2-3 pair! (hummph)

The search is on! For those of you who share my pain... I'll keep you posted!
